The bite on the cooper river has been good. Early morning and late afternoon top water has been fast and furious. Look for fish-busting schools of menhaden. Zara spooks and white flukes working the beat.
The bream have been hot and heavy on the new moon and full moon spawning. Look for the beds in 3-10 ft of water. Side scan is a good way of locating the beds. Fish corks with crickets, wax, and Catawba worms. A scattering of shell crackers are still being caught around saw grass and cypress trees in 3-5 ft of water.
Most of the Crappie have left the trees and are now congregated on brush piles in 10 to 25 feet. Fish jigs tipped with minnows vertical over the brush piles and you can also cast small jigs to the brush.
The NIGHT BITE IS GOOD. Fish shallow around trees and drop-offs will produce plenty of catfish.
Daytime bite. Look for shallow clam beds. Hotter the better causing the clams to die off. Also fish 3-6 ft in the trees and smaller creek in shallow water. Cut shad and herring will be your best choice of bait. Lots of catfish in the 25-35 ft creeks. Drift with Santee Cooper rigs with cut herring, shad, and fresh shrimp.
